First, a correction to the end of last week's report. It should be, of course: Without valleys, you can't enjoy the peaks.
So that has been rectified.
Today Heerenveen comes to the herdgang. A fellow competitor for a top position. A win would be a nice boost. The weather is actually perfect for a nice afternoon of football.
A couple of small chances for us, a ball on the crossbar, some corners and then we were done.
And then Heerenveen. They have come here to play for real and for a long time. They are fierce, play close to the man, get free and even manage to score. And how. In the previous games you managed to keep your goal clean for 410 minutes in total (a record) and then after 23 minutes they pop a line into your goal from 25 meters and you are powerless and you are 0-1 behind. We do our best and get a chance after half an hour. The ball is crossed and lands on the boot of Willem Huizing and the ball rolls into the far corner of the goal. Only Willem does not play for us but for Heerenveen. But still the goal counts. Halftime 1 - 1. After the break we want to do things differently.
And so we did. Within seven minutes Heerenveen managed to score three goals as a result of poor intervention by our rearguard. What a disappointment.
Could Tuesday's match still be in the legs?
After 70 minutes it was even 1 - 5. In the last minute, Moussa was able to make the score more bearable and the final score of 2 - 5 appeared on the scoreboard.
That was it then. A big and justified defeat (could have been a bit lower) against a team that played better than us. So we think again about the opening line.
There are still tough opponents to face in the coming weeks, so now to put our backs up and heads up and move on.
The lesson for today is: To reach the top you have to at least get the maximum out of it.
Good luck and see you next week.
Goodbye.
