PSV retaliates against Volendam
PSV visited Volendam on Saturday, against whom the team had something to put right. In Volendam, PSV was beaten on both attitude and mentality and scored no less than four goals. Although Saturday's result suggests a difficult game, it was very different from Volendam and PSV could only blame themselves for not taking more distance from the guests in the second half.
Whereas in Volendam PSV allowed themselves to be totally overwhelmed by the opponent's style of play, on Saturday PSV took the initiative and, with a bit of luck, managed to translate that into a goal as early as the eighth minute. A corner from the right side by Mylian saw opportunity to hit the ground between a number of players at the five-yard line, after which Milan saw his chance and headed the bouncing ball in: 1-0. PSV did not create any real chances in the first half, and apart from one good chance after 15 minutes Volendam could not claim an equalizer either.
The2nd half looked very different in that regard. With last week's game still in mind, when the team held a 1-0 lead against Utrecht for a long time but had to concede the equalizer 10 minutes before time, the team seemed to realize that the lead had to be extended rather than defended. And PSV also came very close to the 2-0 or better on a number of occasions, the team actually had to reproach itself for not increasing the lead by a number of goals and putting the game into the lock. As a result, Volendam continued to believe in a draw for a long time. Both Milan in the first minute after halftime, Jasper in the 71st minute and Mylian in injury time got in front of the Volendam goalkeeper in a 1-on-1 situation and all had the opportunity to increase the score widely, but failed to finish. As Volendam still had hopes but were unable to get dangerous and score a goal, the 1-0 proved enough this time and PSV took the full three points.
The away game against Vitesse scheduled for next Saturday has been moved to Friday afternoon, Nov. 30, at 3:15 pm.
