In the beginning of the match, things were evenly matched. After seven minutes, PSV had the first chances. Once the ball was shot just over the goal. One minute later, the post prevented PSV from taking the lead. These chances did not give PSV the confidence to make a good game of it. PSV played sloppily and hastily and wrong choices were often made. As MSV Duisburg was also not accurate in passing, it became a messy match. Nevertheless, PSV took the lead in the 21st minute. After a deep ball from Niek, Genrich got free in front of the goalkeeper. He shot in impeccably, 1-0. The game remained messy for the remainder of the first half. No chances were created and the score at halftime was 1-0.

PSV played better in the second half. PSV played less hurriedly and looked for the free man. This resulted in the next goal in the 39th minute. A nice wide pass from Djurre came into the feet of Genrich. He demurred through the center of Duisburg's defense and tapped in the 2-0. Two minutes later the score was further extended by a deep ball on the right side of the pitch to Jeremy. Jeremy showed the Duisburg defender his heels and crossed the ball. In this match especially the first half was very mediocre. In the second half PSV recovered. In the end this led to a large victory.
