PSV C2's 1-0 defeat against Ajax two weeks ago on Tuesday seems to be one with few consequences. After all, coach Twan Scheepers' team first won the tournament on Texel (including a 2-0 win over that same Ajax!) and last weekend it had no trouble at all with NEC/ FC Oss. Thanks to the 4-0 win, the C2 remains in the lead with 18 points from 7 matches. Another boost was AZ's 2-1 victory over Feyenoord, who also lost 0-4 to ADO Den Haag earlier this week. Next Saturday the same Feyenoord awaits at the Herdgang. Should the C2 get three points there, they will remain in the race for the title.
Saturday against NEC/ FC Oss the game was actually already decided in the first quarter of an hour. Joey Konings simply tapped the ball in twice and it was due to a sometimes somewhat lazy PSV that the lead was not bigger at halftime. NEC/Top OSS was unable to find a defense against an excellent combination of PSV. Because the last line remained tight, goalkeeper Aaron van Engelen hardly had a ball to deal with in the first half.
Immediately after the break, a tight header by Mats Grotenbreg secured the victory. PSV slowed down a bit after that, without giving up the game. There were giant chances for Giovanni Nicolaas and once again Mats; the score could have been 6-0 or 7-0 at that stage of the match. The final score was finally decided by Matthias Verreth who shot the ball under the crossbar in one go from the corner flag. Whether this was a serious goal attempt or a cross we will leave open, but it was beautiful!
