The report
Because FC Utrecht does not have an approved artificial turf field at their training complex, this catch-up match was played on a side field of SV Kampong.
Mark van Bommel's boys did not let that throw them off guard. It was Amar Catic who already in the 2nd minute of the game took the ball with his head, but around the sixteen meters he lashed out too early with his right. As a result, this ball went just past the goal. In the 7th minute, the same Catic was the first to go after an FC Utrecht defender played the ball back to his goalkeeper too softly, but when he came face to face with the goalkeeper he slid the ball past the wrong side of the post. PSV played very well at that moment, gave nothing away defensively, showed excellent combination football and when they lost the ball they regained it within seconds. In the 25th minute PSV got a corner kick, which was nicely headed in by Maxime Soulas. Only the fingertips of the FC Utrecht goalie prevented our French defender from scoring. A minute later the goal finally came. A cross from Sekou Sidebe was tapped in twice by Justin Lonwijk: 0-1. PSV wanted more and after a nice cross from Lonwijk to Catic, the score was doubled to 0-2 in the 42nd minute. This was a well-deserved halftime score.
After halftime, PSV continued where it left off. It played good combination football and gave nothing away at the back. And it also created a number of opportunities through Lonwijk and Zakaria Aboukhlal. In the 75th minute it was Mohammed Ihattaren who reached the free Lonwijk with a nice cross. The latter headed the ball at goal, but with a cat-like reaction the goalkeeper tapped the ball against the crossbar. Shortly thereafter the goal was almost scored again, after a nice one-two in the 89th minute between Aboukhlal and Lonwijk. The shot was just blocked by an FC Utrecht defender. With this victory PSV is now joint leader with Ajax with 11 points from five matches. Next Saturday Mark van Bommel's boys play a home match, at 14.00 against Vitesse O19.
Lineup PSV O19: Van de Meulenhof, Wallenburg, Daverveld, Soulas, Theunissen (89, Kuisch), Sadilek, Aboukhlal. Schoonbrood (87, Van den Berg), Catic, Lonwijk and Sidebe (74, Ihattaren).
