  1. Match report

After last Tuesday's disappointing loss at Ajax in the cup semifinals (2-1), the 015 once again faced an Amsterdam team. This time AFC was the opponent. The only amateur club between all the BVOs. And that in itself is already very impressive! With 26 points from 23 games, the Amsterdam team is in a neat 10th place and will easily maintain its place in the Eredivisie.

In the very first league game both teams faced each other in Amsterdam. PSV won 1-4 at the time. Let's see how the teams stand now, with the end of the league in sight.

The first chance of the match was for PSV. After a good interception by Mathijs Bel, Jayden Braaf was put to work on the left side. However, his cross towards the Mathijs running along was impure. The lead went up in smoke in the 2nd minute.

Three minutes later it was almost a goal again. After a corner by Damian Timan, the ball landed at the feet of Mo Ihattaren. However, his slider only hit the post. In the counter AFC was threatening for the first time.

In the 7th minute, it was not the post that stood in the way of an Eindhoven lead, but the crossbar. After a good attack Jayden shot on the bar from a difficult angle. Another minute later the Amsterdam goalkeeper just managed to get his fingertips against Mo's effort.

PSV could and should have taken the lead in the first 10 minutes. After these 10 minutes, the tempo went down at the home club. Too low to worry the AFC defense. After 15 minutes of play they needed help from the goalie to become dangerous again. On a deep ball he thought he could reach it before Mo. But he miscalculated on that so Mo with a header enabled Damian to look for the empty goal from about 22 meters. Unfortunately, he didn't find it.

PSV had frequent ball possession, and also chances in the early stages. Because it was all just not there, a goal did not materialize. AFC got the feeling that there was something to gain at De Herdgang. Occasionally they came out with their fast striker.

After two shots by Mo failed to find a goal, the guests were also close to scoring the opening goal in the 23rd minute. A high ball was carelessly defended, allowing an AFC player to shoot. Luckily goalkeeper Victor Camps was able to save.

Before the break, PSV had three more opportunities to take the lead. And all 3 were for captain Damian. The first was a distance shot that the AFC goalie simply took. The second was a lob over the outflowing goalie after a good cross from Jochem van Dijk. This one hit the net, but only the side on the wrong side....the third was immediately the biggest: after a good action by Jayden, Damian was able to strike from about 10 meters. His low ball went towards the right corner, but with a cat-like reaction he was still able to turn the ball into a corner.

In the 2nd half, PSV took a quick lead. A corner by Mo hit the head of Shurandy Sambo. His header went over the keeper, but a player deftly tapped the ball from under the bar with his hands. Penalty for PSV, red for AFC who had to continue the match with 10 men.

The penalty was unerringly used by Damian and with that it finally seemed like they were on a roll: 1-0 lead and with one man more.

Because the home team still played at too low a tempo, was sloppy with and without the ball and simply did not have the form today, it could not get AFC on its back even with an overtal. After a free kick from Mo ended up in the side netting, it was AFC who came out of nowhere in the 48th minute to make it 1-1. Slack defending allowed a midfielder to gain possession of the ball just outside the 16 meters. With a cool kick with his left leg, he shot the ball into the far top corner. Beautiful goal!

PSV fought. Not for victory, unfortunately, but against themselves. For a moment it looked as if it might take the lead again when Beslan Sagov curled a ball just past.

Because PSV did not force enough in the 2nd half, they even had to watch out for a possible 2nd Amsterdam goal. Yet it did come. Because in the 66th minute, the striker was able to come up with the ball at foot and go to his strong right leg. With an old-fashioned swab he passed Victor beautifully: 1-2!

In the penultimate minute Jayden was able to score the equalizer. However, he looked for the goal far too high. As a result, PSV lost again. It now lost the last 3 league games and also a cup game. Not good numbers.

By the way, it is remarkable that PSV manages to win twice in Amsterdam against both Amsterdam teams (Ajax and AFC) in league, but also loses twice in Eindhoven. Perhaps a suggestion to move to Amsterdam as well like Philips?
