Bayer Leverkusen started the match strongly and put PSV under pressure early. In the third minute, the visitors' first opportunity was shot in 0-1. Bayer Leverkusen kept the upper hand after that and PSV did not manage to create a chance in this phase of the match. PSV started the second half much stronger. In the 32nd minute, an effort by Amin was turned away by the goalkeeper. Three minutes later, a long-distance shot by Mohamed Ihattaren went just over. PSV played more forward and the visitors came under pressure. The picture of the match compared to the first half had completely reversed and it was PSV who now controlled the match. Nevertheless, it was Bayer Leverkusen who managed to extend the score through a quick breakaway. The ball eventually came to the striker of the visitors who rounded Robin and shot the 0-3. With this, the game seemed to be played but PSV still came back. In the 53rd minute Mohamed Ihattaren shot from 25 meters high into the goal 1-3. Two minutes later it was Nigel who captured the ball with a slide on the halfway line. The attack on the right finally reached Jur who scored the 2-3 via a lob over the goalkeeper. PSV went in search of the equalizer and in the last minute a header by a PSV player was cleared just before the goal line. The ensuing shot went just over the crossbar to make the final score 2-3.
