    '23 0-1 Arnaut Groeneveld
    '31 0-2 Philippe Rommens (pen.)

PSV took the win on Saturday in the away match against Vitesse at the beautiful brand-new training and youth complex in a good first half and played the match maturely without really getting into trouble.

The first 20 minutes nothing happened from the PSV side and the players seemed to be caught by the icy wind blowing across the pitch. Vitesse had one chance in return, but the Arnheimers' physically strong, somewhat unwieldy striker only half hit a cross at the far post and saw his effort go wide. Awakened, PSV took control of the game, which immediately resulted in two excellent goals. In the 23rd minute Dirk Abels, occasional left back, sent occasional striker Arnaut Groeneveld towards the Arnhem goal with a fine deep pass, which Arnaut took with his head and shot beautifully in with his left foot, 0-1. Central defender Marco Wijmans was behind the 0-2 just a few minutes later, when he set up an attack around the halfway line, regaining possession of the ball around the penalty area after a good run. He was then flagrantly floored in the penalty area, after which Philippe Rommens shot the awarded penalty impeccably in, 0-2. A nice half-time score, although the team was again confronted this week with the fact that an apparently regulation goal was disallowed for alleged offside on the instructions of the opposing linesman, so that Arnaut Groeneveld's 0-3 -final piece of an otherwise magnificent attack- was wrongly not recorded in the referee's administration.

The second half was marked by wins and losses. Pure gain was that the team played out the second half solidly and sovereignly, virtually not allowing themselves to be troubled by Vitesse, who got only one real chance in the 2nd half, and thus pulled the lead to the finish line almost without any problems, which has been lacking at times in recent weeks. Loss consisted of the fact that Belgian defender Marco Weijmans, who has only been eligible to play since the winter break, sat out with what appears to be a major ankle injury, which will likely keep him sidelined for some time. We wish Marco a speedy recovery and hope he can rejoin the group soon. In addition, goalkeeper Kevin Doré played his last minutes for the time being, at least for the B2. Next Monday Kevin will undergo an operation -certainly for him as a goalkeeper- which will reconstruct his long injured finger and which will be followed by months of rehabilitation. Staff and players wish Kevin (and his surgeon) the best of luck and a speedy recovery!
