A PSV that got off to a very driven and sharp start giving them a 2-0 lead after only 10 min. It was Amar Catic who , after an excellent opening from Armando Obispo, lifted the ball over the Excelsior goalkeeper and Cody Gakpo who managed to put the ball into the far corner. The positional play remained good but the pace was a little too slow for Excelsior to limit the damage. Just before half time Armando Obispo managed to make it 3-0 after a well shot free kick.

In the second half Excelsior were clearly instructed to take a defensive back seat which made it difficult for PSV to create any real chances. It was even the Rotterdammers who scored the tying goal after a wrong choice by us in the build-up. 3-1. It was up to PSV to react quickly and this resulted in a hat-trick by Justin Lonwijk, after assists from Amar Catic(2) and Cody Gakpo. Again Cody Gakpo after an individual action determined the final score. 7--1.
