Match report:
Today PSV could already (5 games before the end) become champions. PSV had laid down a nice moyenne, played 17 league games, won 17 league games with a staggering goal difference of 105-9 (+96). The full 100% score, in other words.
However, PSV had to beat their eternal archrival and closest rival for the title (Willem II/RKC). Add to that a home match under good conditions and you have the best ingredients for a brilliant championship match.
The question beforehand was of course, were the PSV players (too) nervous, was the away match against Willem II/RKC with an 8-1 victory an incident, didn't Willem II/RKC just have an off-day then and did Willem II/RKC now fervently want revenge for that painful and unimaginable defeat.
Well herewith I give in a nutshell the answers to these pressing questions.
No, the PSV players were not nervous at all and - especially in the first half - played extremely cool. In other words, just like a real (upcoming) champion. The many spectators did not know what they saw; a superior PSV, lord and master in all football facets.
So no, the 8-1 victory in the away match against Willem II/RKC was neither an incident nor a mistake.
No, Willem II/RKC may have wanted to, but simply came up short against an unleashed PSV.
PSV's ball pace was incredibly high. PSV's attacks were often a feast for the eyes. The goals were of unparalleled beauty. On the other hand, PSV gave away only one chance (in the 2nd half). And fortunately for Willem II/RKC, PSV's sights were not quite set in the 2nd half either. The result was a resounding 6-0 victory and a sublime championship. Congratulations gentlemen.
