In the race for the lead in the B2 competition, PSV scored a very difficult victory in Saturday's home match against last placed Willem II / RKC. While in the outward round the team managed to find the net 7 times for the guests in Tilburg, on Saturday they had to wait until well into the second half for the only goal of the match.

"At least we were not outplayed," concluded the Willem II / RKC staff after the match with the earlier result in mind. However, that was not so much the fault of the guests, who actually only became dangerous after fifteen minutes in the first half when a dropped ball after a corner kick was shot just wide, but more of the impotence of PSV, which did not have 'it' today and seemed to lack the drive to hurt the guests. Although the play looked lackluster, a number of good chances were created. In the 1st half Joey Konings and Arnaut Groeneveld both had good opportunities to open the scoring after being sent off by Lennerd Daneels and Dante Rigo respectively, but they failed to capitalize on the chances. In the 1st quarter of the 2nd half, the same Arnaut Groeneveld cut himself free twice after being played into the penalty area in almost identical fashion by Dante Rigo and Lennerd Daneels with a nice slick ball that fell right over the last defender, but both times he rounded off his action with a shot that went just past the Tilburg goal. When striker Joey Konings also failed to score his weekly goal - he headed in a fine cross from Arnaut Groeneveld in the '67 minute, but the Tilburg goalkeeper had to make a great save to prevent a goal - PSV started to get the feeling that they would have to settle for a point.

10 minutes before time, it was captain Tom Scheepers who prevented PSV from going down in flames. He took advantage of a corner and controlled the corner kick by Dante Rigo at the far post, shooting the ball into the crossbar with his instep, 1-0. Given the odds, a deserved victory for PSV, but given the play shown, a game to quickly forget. PSV remains in the race for the championship, and is now in 2nd place on the league table 2 points behind Ajax.
