Both teams showed in the beginning of the match the intention to make it a fun match by looking for the attack. The first good opportunity to score was in the seventh minute for the visitors from Rotterdam. A Feyenoord cross was unexpectedly headed through. With a good reflex, Peter turned the ball away and kept his goal clean. Two minutes later PSV had their first opportunity to score and they took advantage of it. The ball landed at the feet of Jeremy, who played it with a fine lob over the Feyenoord goalie, making it 1-0. A few minutes later Feyenoord had the opportunity to score from a corner. However, the ball was headed just over. A nice game unfolded with opportunities back and forth. In the 26th minute Feyenoord equalized from an attack on the left. The cross initially hit the bar. In the rebound the ball was tapped into the goal 1-1. This was also the score at halftime.
PSV had the opportunity to take the lead again three minutes into the second half. After a goal kick by the Feyenoord goalie, Jur took the ball away from the Feyenoord defender. His cross was shot by Jeremy against the Feyenoord goalie. A few minutes later, Feyenoord took the lead. A deep ball through the heart of PSV's defense reached the Feyenoord striker. He rounded Robin and shot the 1-2. Both teams played at a high tempo after that. PSV was sloppy at times, however, giving Feyenoord the opportunity to score. However, this opportunity was not taken. In the 45th minute it was PSV that had a chance to level the score after a nice attack on the left. Mohamed initially shot against the Feyenoord goalie. In the second instance, the ball again failed to go in via the keeper and the post. PSV's play became sloppier after this and PSV were unable to create any more chances. Feyenoord tried to add to their lead with a couple of breakaways, but were unsuccessful. The final score was 1-2.
