After the fine cup victory (3-0) over Feyenoord last weekend, the o15 now returned to league action. Opponent mid-table VVV Venlo. The match was played in Stadion De Koel. And it certainly was, fresh...... We couldn't complain about the temperature in recent weeks. The switch to cooler weather took some getting used to!
After an impressive minute of silence, PSV had a chance to open the score immediately in the 1st minute. Left winger Thijs Martens brought the ball into the 16 m after which Elgero King could head the ball with too little momentum to surprise the goalkeeper.
Despite VVV retreating en masse and putting up a veritable yellow wall, the home team had a chance in the 6th minute. However, goalkeeper Victor Camps threw himself on the ball, preventing VVV from taking a surprising lead.
After Mo Ihattaren saw a ball cleared off the line, Thijs Martens shot straight at the goalkeeper, PSV deservedly took the lead after 15 minutes of play. A free kick by captain Damian Timan landed on Yorbe Vertessen, which beat the VVV goalkeeper with a bow: 0-1.
Three minutes later the Eindhoven team almost made it 0-2 when Mees Kreekels sent Mathijs Bel deep on the right. His cross was headed well by Thijs, but the goalkeeper was able to save in the near corner.
Because PSV kept the tempo too low, they did not get many chances. A carom went just wide and a free kick from long range by Mo, the goalkeeper had a lot of trouble.
With a 0-1 score, both teams headed back up the steep stairs of the stadium towards the dressing rooms.
Immediately in the 2nd half, PSV scored the second goal. Mathijs played Mo on the right, whose cross ended up with Yorbe. With his back to the goal he turned quickly around his axis and shot the ball hard and high against the ropes: 0-2.
This goal gave the team more composure. The tempo was significantly higher than in the first half and VVV hardly got out of their own half.
PSV had more chances and opportunities than in the first half. But Shurandy Sambo saw his shot disappear from the goal mouth via "the pinball". And distance shots by Jochem van Dijk and Mo Ihattaren missed the right direction.
Still, the Eindhoveners got to 0-3 in the 52nd minute. Mathijs recaptured the ball in midfield and played Yorbe. Just inside the 16 meters he cut free and kicked the ball just as beautifully and coolly into the corner.
In the 55th minute, PSV made a beautiful attack over several drives. The end station was Stijn van der Put, who unfortunately shot wide. Not much later Mo did the same after he pulled some "Dolfinarium tricks" out of his hat.
With 8 minutes to play, VVV was dangerous for the first time in the second half: a corner was headed wide by a defender. That was the home team's only chance.
The final chord was again for PSV. Yorbe scored the 0-4 in the 65th minute after he intercepted a wrong pass from the VVV player on his own goalkeeper and calmly scored his 4th goal.
In addition to scoring, Yorbe was also able to provide assists. Two minutes before time he reached the back line on the left, put the ball back where the incoming Beslan Sagov took the ball on his flick with his left and shot it high and hard: 0-5.
So PSV won by a large margin after a mediocre first half. And for the 2nd time in a row they kept the score zero. Good developments.
Next week the 015 plays at home against Volendam. Come and have a look at De Herdgang!
