The match against the penultimate of this league was preceded by one minute of silence in connection with the death of a Roosendaal youth player.
Then the battle erupted, but there was only ten minutes of tension and struggle.
Both teams were keen and chances were created back and forth, but none worth mentioning. Then the expected goal-fest for PSV began. We are writing five minutes later and the scoreboard already showed 2-0. The Roosendaal defense was broken for good. Not that the team lost heart; they played football athletically and at their highest strength until the end of the match. But PSV D2 was simply of several levels higher. Our boys dominated the match in all areas.
The first goal came about when Pepijn had stopped one of the opposing team's sporadic shots on goal and delivered a far out kick that was met by right winger Amar. He did not get the ball well on the slipper to score, but had enough power to pass the ball toward Cody. The latter opened the scoring with a long, sharp corner cross. On the second goal, Cody made yards by passing two opposing players at speed and scoring after a fluid one-two with captain Justin.
Hand speed was also at the root of the third goal. With his unprecedented speed, Amar took out his opponent and his measured cross was ready for the well positioning Justin. He worked the ball tightly into the nets.
The minutes ticked on. From a scrimmage in front of the goal Robin headed the ball to Cody who scored his hat-trick with a left into the long corner and for the team the 4-0.
Just before halftime Roosendaal broke through our defense, which, led by an attentive and always playable Armando, had not made any mistakes. The goal was disallowed.
After the break coach Bastiaan changed some players and it took some time to find the right man in the right position. And, it must be said, Roosendaal had a never-ending commitment and played the second half mainly defensively. Ball artist Huseyin stood out on the right with strong crosses from inimitable moves: a feast for the eyes. Still, the 5-0 fell from combination play: also very attractive to watch. Midfielder Jordan played Ruud at speed who saw his shot turned away and Justin cashed in on the rebound. The last goal was set up by Justin who passed two opposing players and played it face to face with the goalkeeper to the free Roland who could choose a corner and beat the goalkeeper. A rolling game. A predictable victory.
However, our leading position was strengthened by another salient detail of this football Saturday: Den Bosch played a draw against Geldrop!
