Today we had a long trip ahead of us. An hour to Maastricht to play against MVV 012.
The first half we started well. We played the ball around carefully but unfortunately we didn't create any real opportunities. The first half was actually just boring for the audience, 0-0.
That was certainly not the case in the second half. Heritier came in and set up a nice combination with Mohamed-Amine Ihattaren. He went full speed toward the back line. A cross seemed logical. But fortunately Heritier had something nice up his sleeve. He popped the ball cleanly into the far corner. 0-1. We were in control and played a strong second half. Mathijs Tielemans excelled. First, with a phenomenal pass, he set Jur free in front of the goal. Unfortunately he shot against the goalie. Then Mathijs did it himself. On the edge of the penalty area he caught the ball, flicked it over his opponent with his right hand and shot it in from the air into the far corner. A brilliant goal, 0-2.
We seemed to have the game under control. But in the third half things went differently than we thought. MVV's left winger seemed to hit a cross but it blew over Peter into the goal. 1-2. It became exciting again. We played a bit more restless and MVV got hope. From a corner they scored the 2-2. With about ten minutes left on the clock we went looking for the win. Mohamed-Amine Ihattaren passed deep, to the strong playing, Jur Clabbers. Jur stayed calm, passed the keeper and slid it into the empty goal. 2-3! We thought we had finally won the game, but the referee thought differently. In the last minute he saw a penalty for MVV. Would we draw after all? No! MVV's striker missed. We won 2-3 in the end.
Today we saw that we can play great football, but sometimes we get restless when we get a goal against. We learned a lot and will take revenge in Venlo next week.
