  1. Match report

Three teams from the PSV youth academy spent last week in Qatar to participate in a tournament. This included the under-15s, who finished the mini-tournament in first place with two wins. A great result! Especially since the team was struggling so far in 2016. This year's competition saw a very laborious win over red-league team NAC Breda. But then things went wrong twice ( NEC 0-2 and Heerenveen 1-0), with both duels not scoring either.

To avoid having to spend the rest of the league in the drab middle of the table, a win now was very welcome.

The opening phase was mediocre from both sides. Only in the 10th minute could a decent attack be seen. This one was from the home team which saw quick combination football between Mathijs Bel, Dennis Vos and Yorbe Vertessen. Yorbe rebounded the ball to Dennis who instead of shooting himself tried again to put Yorbe in position. Unfortunately that failed so the first decent attack did not result in what football is all about: scoring.

The first half developed further without any super big chances. Mo Ihattaren tried twice from distance. Both times his shot went wide. Despite having more ball possession, PSV got away very well twice. First in the 19th minute the ball landed via the leg of goalkeeper Jurre Schaafsma on the post and then in Jurre's hands. And in the 25th, a Vitesse forward headed the ball onto the same post.

In between, PSV could also have opened the scoring. After Dennis released striker Yorbe, the latter put just one pass too many, allowing an Arnhem defender to prevent a goal.

Just before halftime it was finally close. After a fine attack, the ball landed at the feet of captain Damian Timan. His effort was touched by a Vitesse player. The corner that followed was deliciously cut in by Mo and then beautifully headed into the far corner by Mees Kreekels: 1-0.

In the second half, PSV continued well. Already from the first minute they strung together chance after chance. First Yorbe almost pulled in a throw in by Jochem van Dijk, then Damian almost scored the rebound, and Yorbe again forced the goalkeeper into a fine save. After which the rebound was shot in by Mo. But unfortunately a Vitesse defender was able to kick the ball away from the goal line.

The pressure remained high on the Arnhem goal and in the 37th minute Yorbe scored the 2-0 after preparatory work by Shurandy Sambo.

PSV seemed to run over Vitesse in that phase. They also had the opportunity to make it 3-0, but Yorbe came a toe length too short to tap in a cross from Mo.

Suddenly, however, it was 2-1 in the 46th minute when a long-distance shot plopped into the far corner behind Jurre. Vitesse briefly became the stronger team and was close to an equalizer when the striker at the 1st post almost ran in a cross.

A minute later (49th minute) Beslan Sagov scored at the other end to make it 3-1. A quick PSV attack down the right flank via Yorbe seemed to go to Damian, but ended at the far post where the free Beslan simply pushed the ball in.

Another minute later the Vitesse striker and goalkeeper Jurre Schaafsma collided hard. In great pain, both players had to quit the game. After a quick warm-up, Victor Camps took over under the Eindhoven crossbar.

The first time Victor had to come into action was after a hilarious moment. Shurandy tried to clear a cross, but hit the ball completely wrong, causing it to go backwards. Victor picked up the ball, but the referee saw in the failed kick only a deliberate return ball. An indirect free kick close to the goal was the result. Fortunately, this one was not converted into a goal. Not even when it had to be retaken because of too early a run in. Justice....

The next attack the ball was back in the net. It was a copy of the 3rd goal: Yorbe through on the right, ball wide and Beslan finishing at the 2nd post: 4-1.

After 61 minutes of play, PSV ran out further. Meg a clever shot Yorbe put the score at 5-1. Then, barely a minute later, a Vitesse central defender slid the ball past his own goalkeeper into the corner: 6-1.

PSV finally took another convincing victory and scored well. A more than justified victory with at times good field play and a good collective. Possibly Qatar came just at the right moment.
