  1. Match report

Every game has two halves. Of course in time but today also in perception, inspiration etc. Against an opponent who has a point more than us, we can show today that we really belong at the top. A top where we simply belong as a club but where we should also belong in terms of the talent we have. We started the game weak again. Far too much running with the ball, (the coach was nearly getting bored of it) and choosing wrong running lines and always looking for the pressure instead of choosing the free space on the other side. In the beginning AZ was better than PSV and it was thanks to Nigel that it was still 0 - 0. After 14 minutes the ball reaches the left side of the pitch and Mo plays a through ball to Geraldo. 1 - 0.
Right from the kick-off it could have been 1 - 1 again but again our goalkeeper saves. After about half an hour AZ hit the target. From a free kick for us (just over the center line) AZ manages to shoot the ball through the middle of our defense into the goal and the 1 - 1 is now a fact. We struggled to make it to halftime with this score.
After halftime the game is better, we are more evenly matched and we both have chances to score but each time both goalkeepers stand in the way. Still we have the feeling (just the feeling) that we are getting a small advantage. After 70 minutes it is Thomas who puts in a good run and from the side of the penalty area Ruben scores the 2 - 1. AZ didn't leave it at that and started a final offensive to bring back a point but again it was Nigel who saved us from some precarious situations. After some injury time the referee finally whistles for the last time and the 2 - 1 victory is a fact. So at the end of a game that didn't really deserve a winner we still get the three points in the pocket. And third place on the league table is ours again.
Next week the away game against NAC for the cup. Good luck.
