The 20th league round featured the Brabant derby against Willem II. For PSV the 19th match. It still has to catch up with Fc Utrecht.
This time you could talk about a devalued derby. PSV was on a shared 5th place before the start (with a 3rd place in the lead in case of a win in Utrecht), Willem II is 12th in the standings. Also a third spot, but seen from the other side of the list.
The earlier game in Eindhoven ended in a particularly big 8-0 victory. Curious to see if coach Edwin de Wijs' team can regain confidence after last week's defeat against Ajax (2-4).
In a weak first half, with few chances from either side, PSV still went into the break with a lead. In the 12th minute, Damian Timan passed the ball to Dennis Vos, who steamed in from afar. He was able to score from an awkward position, but kept his composure and played the ball to the free Beslan Sagov on the right. Beslan then had little trouble putting the opening goal on the scoreboard.
In the second half there was fortunately a bit more to experience. The pace was a bit faster and PSV was sharper and also showed more experience.
Soon (40th minute) PSV scored 0-2. After a corner, Thijs Martens was allowed to pass the ball. Eventually the ball ended up in the hands of Mo Ihattaren, who threatened to shoot but passed to Mathijs Bel, who flicked the ball to the free Mees Kreekels. Mees outsmarted the keeper with a fine curve ball to make it 0-2.
A minute later, Willem II went close when a shot hit the crossbar. But Willem II could not do much about it either.
After Mo Ihattaren's shot into the far corner in the 47th minute made it 0-3, the game was over. Goalkeeper Victor Camps had to intervene a couple of times for some chances and shots by the Tilburgers. But the victory was never in danger.
PSV even missed opportunities to score more. Damian Timan almost scored with a volley. And also Thijs Martens hit the Tilburg goalie.
Thus, PSV took 3 points again and kept the zero. The next match is at home against leaders Feyenoord. If we want to win that match as well, we will have to play 70 minutes with concentration, passion and experience. First the Samba tournament in Rotterdam at Easter.
