PSV started the match strongly and after two minutes it was Jeremy who opened the scoring, 0-1. PSV continued well and four minutes later it was again Jeremy who scored the next goal, 0-2. Ajax combined well and this resulted in the equalizer a few minutes later, 2-2. Ajax kept the pressure on PSV but nevertheless it was PSV who had another opportunity to score. However, the ball hit the crossbar. In the ensuing quick counterattack it was Ajax that took the lead after all, 3-2. This was also the score at halftime.
In the second half, the first opportunity was for Ajax. This opportunity was also taken in the 36th minute, 4-2. A few minutes later, Ajax was awarded a penalty kick that was deflected in, 5-2. PSV could not make a fist in this phase of the match to win the match. The passing was inaccurate, resulting in too many ball losses. In the 47th minute it was again Ajax that extended the score after a quick breakaway, 6-2. PSV started a final offensive after this goal. This immediately led to an opportunity but the ball went in via the underside of the crossbar. In the 49th minute it was Mohamed Ihattaren who shot the 6-3. PSV felt there was more to come and two minutes later Jur tapped in the 6-4. In the 54th minute it was again Jur who scored, 6-5. PSV forced Ajax completely on the defensive and the equalizer was in the air. A few minutes before time, Mohamed Ihattaren shot the ball against the post. This was the third time the woodwork prevented a goal. In the last minute, Mohamed Ihattaren shot the equalizer, 6-6. This also seemed to be the final score. However, well into injury time, Ajax scored 7-6 on a quick breakaway to take the win.
