The Report

After the weekday game on Tuesday against Volendam (8-1 victory), PSV O15 had to face FC Utrecht today. At home the Eindhoven players did not get beyond a disappointing draw against the mid-tier side. Utrecht played a nice draw last weekend against leader Ajax, so PSV was doubly warned.

The start could be called flying. Because in the 4th minute, PSV already took the lead. After a foul on Heritier Deyonge on the edge of the penalty area, Joost de Schutter shot the ball on the inside of the post. The rebound was for the attentive Kees van Lindert who simply scored the opening goal: 0-1. PSV remained the better team in the first half. However, goalkeeper Peter Strijbosch was called into action after fifteen minutes when the Utrecht striker seemed to take advantage of a mistake in the Eindhoven build-up. But luckily Peter threw himself on the ball at the right moment when the striker played the ball just too far in front of him. As PSV failed to score the second goal, both teams went to rest with the 0-1 score.

In the second half, Utrecht started to play more opportunistically. This gave PSV more space in front, but they handled it very sloppily. This kept the margin small and thus the match exciting. Utrecht tried to score the equalizer. It also scored in the 58th minute, but that happened from an offside situation so the goal was cancelled. PSV had a couple of opportunities to put the game away, but were so sloppy with a couple of overtime situations that it remained exciting until the final whistle. Fortunately, no more goals were scored so PSV took the three points back to Brabant. Three important points in a difficult match, fine!
