PSV C2 played a catch-up game against ADO Den Haag today at the Herdgang. This match was scheduled for the first league round but was cancelled. Both PSV and ADO had won their first and only league game so far. PSV beat FC Utrecht 0-2 and ADO won 4-0 against Sparta Rotterdam. So today would certainly not be easy.
PSV starts the match reasonably well. Twan Scheepers' team gets the best chances, including two big ones. Unfortunately, they did not finish them off. The reward seemed to come when Lennerd Daneels went to the goalkeeper and scored. Completely wrongly, the referee disallowed the goal after fierce protests from The Hague. Not long after this questionable decision, ADO scores 0-1 from a quick attack and shortly after from a free kick even 0-2. PSV seems upset and cannot get back in the game. The team struggles with the physical play of ADO and only creates one big chance before the break, which is not exploited. PSV went into the dressing room with an 0-2 deficit.
In the early stages after the break, PSV does not seem to be able to turn the game around. But slowly Twan Scheepers' boys started to win duels and there were some chances. The game could be better, but the effort is great, as is the will to at least get a point. Halfway through the second, PSV's efforts were rewarded when Mink Peeters scored twice in quick succession to bring his team level. PSV smells victory and presses on. They fight for every meter and eventually it becomes 3-2: an attack from their own half via Giovanni Nicolaas, Lennerd Daneels and Matthias Verreth is completed by Mats Grotenbreg. After this goal a little final offensive by ADO follows, but no really big chances are created. The biggest chance is even for PSV, but Matthias comes up against the goalkeeper.
PSV wins the game after the first half in a way that was not expected. The football was perhaps not brilliant and the team can certainly improve, but the effort and perseverance were fine. With this victory, PSV C2 leads the league for C2 Juniors with 6 points from 2 matches. PSV is the only team still without a point loss, at 2 points follow AZ, Feyenoord, Ajax and Willem II. Next week the difficult away game against Sparta Rotterdam.
