PSV wanted to get a good result in this last match before the winter break to improve their position in the league table. PSV immediately went in search of a goal. In the beginning of the match, real conviction was lacking and PSV was sloppy in passing. After 15 minutes, PSV got a grip on the match and played at a higher pace. In the 20th minute, PSV had the first real chance to take the lead. In the penalty area Mohamed extended the ball to Milan van de Riet but his effort was turned away by Twente's goalkeeper. PSV then pressed Twente further back into their own half. The home club was only threatening with a few breakdowns. However, the home club did not create any real chances. PSV had a good chance to score just before half-time from a Milan van de Riet cross. The ball rolled slowly past without a PSV player being able to give the decisive touch. Both teams went into halftime with the final score.
The picture at the start of the second half was no different from the first. PSV, looking for a goal and Twente, lurking on the counter. After five minutes in the second half, PSV had another chance to score. With a cross from Milan van de Riet, he put Martijn alone in front of the Twente goalie. Martijn's shot was again turned away by the goalkeeper. In the 47th minute, the Twente goalie was again a barrier on a shot by Milan van de Riet. PSV was stronger but could not convert this into goals. Twente remained threatening with fast breakaways. In the 48th minute, a counter by the home club resulted in a corner. Jules was unable to control the ball and a Twente player tapped in the 1-0. Given the pattern of the game, this was completely against the odds. PSV went in search of a goal even more emphatically but this did not help PSV's play. PSV started to play sloppier and the home club played with more confidence after the lead. In injury time PSV had another good chance but again it was the Twente goalkeeper who prevented a goal so PSV returned home empty handed.
PSV created several chances in this match but PSV did not have their sights on the ball today. As a result, they unnecessarily left three points behind in Twente. After the winter break we will start again in the Champions Group.
Hereby I wish you all happy holidays and a healthy and sportive 2017.
