The first game after the winter break was an away game at Excelsior.
The play in the first half was that PSV controlled the midfield but were unable to convert that into real chances, and Excelsior could become dangerous in the counter as soon as PSV lost the ball in front.
This also created the corner from which Excelsior was able to score the first goal. PSV could not get the ball out of the sixteen after this corner, and Excelsior was successful at the third effort and shot the 1-0.
They could not enjoy the lead for long because two minutes later it was already 1-1 again. PSV got a free kick on the left side about 5 meters outside the sixteen. Damian placed the ball with a bounce between the posts. The goalkeeper was able to stop the ball, but could not grab it. Dani was attentive and shot the ball in.
In the second half we saw a different pattern of play. PSV had everything under control and did not give away any more chances. Twice they managed to find the net, but twice the goal was disallowed due to offside. The second was, also according to the Rotterdam crowd, definitely not offside. Very unfortunate. PSV kept the pressure on until the last second, but unfortunately the net was not found.
Unfortunately no win, but with the play of the second half we are confident going into the next matches.
