Who can call themselves leaders after this match? That was the key question for today. Hence both teams started cautiously. The orange and white teams from Bosschenaren were reminded of last week's debacle against Oranje Wit from Dordrecht.
There, PSV suffered their first point loss in a disputable match. But nothing was further from the truth. Both the team and today's referee quickly put that thought out of mind.
Den Bosch had a solid team on the pitch and created a few fearsome chances in the first 10 minutes. When from one of those chances Pepijn kicked the ball far out, Cody and Amar made sure with a flowing one-two that it was 1-0 for PSV after just under fifteen minutes of play.
PSV showed solid football. They played well together, the tempo was high and the passings were correct. On the right, the first half ran very smoothly and the duo of James and Jordan were at the set-up of the next two goals. The 2-0 was a clever shot by captain Justin, unexpectedly into the short corner and the 3-0 was by Cody who worked the ball into the nets after a flashy approach. In the 4-0, Cody showed off a brilliant display of stick work. Jordan, also in superb form today, then sent Amar to the corner flag with a measured longitudinal pass. The latter coolly scored in the short corner; 5-0. FC Den Bosch was ready for halftime.
The expected tension in this match did not materialize.
Bastiaan Riemersma had prepared his team well for this game.
Starting the second half with five goals in his pocket required discipline. The dynamics of the first half had faded a bit. The game became sloppier and Den Bosch stronger. Where the defense had hermetically closed the "wall" in the first half, Den Bosch quickly found a hole in the second half. From a corner it became 5-1. Yet PSV recovered and this yielded two more goals. Jordan scored deservingly with a strong long-distance shot and Robin worked the ball in with a fine approach and ditto shot. The performance of the D3 goalkeeper Kyan van Dorp (Arne was injured) is worth mentioning. He kept the last fifteen minutes with verve, especially his catch on a free kick was class!
And the answer to the initial question ... PSV is leader!
On to the showdown against Ajax.
