The 3rd league game of the C1 was against straggler NEC/Fc Oss. Would Edwin de Wijs' team take the 3 points for the first time today? The weather was fine, the grass was cut short. Only, the opponent..... was not there yet. Hit by a traffic jam on the A50, they were late. So the match started later than planned. The intentions to keep the 3 points in Eindhoven were quickly put into action: in the 10th minute, striker Matthias Verreth hit the goal. After a wonderful deep pass from last man Lassane Faye, Matthias found himself alone in front of the Nijmegen goalkeeper. Coolly he passed this hurdle and scored the opening goal. PSV created many chances and opportunities, but the real sharpness was lacking. NEC came sparingly in front of goalkeeper Mike van de Meulenhof's goal. Not surprisingly, PSV extended their lead. Just before halftime, PSV took a comfortable 3-0 lead through goals by Karim Bannani (assist by Matthias) and Jaëll Hattu (after a crafty lob by Danté Rigo, the ball went to Joey Konings who put Jaëll in front of the goalie). PSV got away well just before the halftime signal after a NEC/Fc Oss free kick hit the outside of the post.
In the second half, the game went down a bit on the PSV side. Nevertheless, the lead was extended to 5-0. Jaëll scored his 2nd goal of the afternoon in the 42nd minute after a good long ball from Kaan Tanriver. With a particularly subtle foot movement he outsmarted the Nijmegen goalie. The final chord was finally for Matthias who scored just before time at the 1st post after fine passing from Lennerd Daneels and ditto cross.
