Willem II/RKC got off to a strong start and scored as early as the third minute. A shot from the edge of the penalty area went high into the goal, 1-0. PSV was not upset by this quick counter-goal and tried to control the game by playing football. This gave PSV a lot of ball possession but PSV could not create any danger in this part of the match. Willem II/RKC tried to outsmart PSV with quick breakaways. These breaks created a few threats, but no goals were scored. The home club was able to extend the score through a free kick in the 25th minute. From 25 meters the free kick was shot high and hard, 2-0. A few minutes later it was again the home team who had a scoring opportunity. The effort was turned away by Robin and in the rebound the ball went wide. In the 27th minute Willem II/RKC had another chance after a through ball through the center of PSV's defense. However, the ball was tapped just wide. PSV realized it had to step up a gear. One minute before halftime, they scored the tying goal. Mohamed rounded several opponents on the right side of the pitch. His cross was shot in by Jeremy 2-1. This was also the score at halftime.

After halftime, PSV continued in the same vein as they had ended the first half. Yet it was the home club that had the first opportunity after a deep ball to a Willem II/RKC forward. His shot, however, was turned away by the well-running Peter. PSV went in search of the equalizer and the home club lurked on the counter. PSV had field advantage and in the 49th minute the deserved equalizer finally came. An attack through several PSV players eventually reached Mo. Mo rounded the left back and from the edge of the penalty area he shot the ball high into the goal with his left, 2-2. PSV then went full on the attack but PSV hardly created any chances. In the penultimate minute Jeremy tried to score with a nice omelette but the ball went just over. In the last minute Jur finally scored but the goal was disallowed by the referee. The final score was 2-2.
