On ´Super Saturday´ the leaders in the First Division B, namely PSV D1 and Willem II D1, both took full wins. PSV D1 won 0-3 at a fiercely resisting Roda JC D1 and Willem II D1 beat MVV D1 3-1. With this defeat, MVV D1 seems to have dropped out of the battle for the championship.
In ideal football conditions, PSV D1 opened nervously at Roda JC D1. There was a lot of unnecessary ball loss in the build-up initially, which prevented PSV D1 from getting into the game. Once a PSV D1 player threatened to become dangerous, he was often stopped by an opponent at the cost of a foul.
After twenty minutes of play Jeroen Meefout took a perfect corner, which Rai Vloet, who jumped up high and timed it superbly, headed hard into the ropes from the edge of the enemy goal area (0-1). There were no real chances at either goal until halftime.
After tea, the PSV D1 team looked more balanced. A number of chances were created, but thanks to good goalkeeping they were not converted into goals. After fifteen minutes of play in the second half, Vinnie Vermeer, who played well, got the ball at his own feet in the own sixteen meters, he looked and gave a sublime through ball to Endy Opoku Bernadina, who despite growing pains again acted strongly. Endy left the Roda JC defenders completely defenseless at speed, bypassed the goalkeeper and then finished with an unerring left (0-2). This was teamwork and finishing of the highest caliber! Roda JC D1 was tired and PSV D1 was dangerous in front of the Roda JC goal time and time again. A big compliment goes to the defenders of PSV D1, who gave Roda JC D1 only one real chance in the whole match. This was saved by the well playing Sander Heesakkers standing on his own goal line. The strong Jorrit Hendrix threatened a few times to break through from his own defense, coming up with the ball at foot, but unfortunately he was brought down just before the enemy penalty area.
In the last minute of the match Vinnie Vermeer aimed a free kick perfectly at the head of Jordy de Wijs, who headed the ball onto the post via the hands of the Roda goalkeeper. The rebounding ball fell to Junior Lima dos Santos, who also came on strongly, and who ruthlessly rounded off the rebound from the post (0-3).
With four matches to go, PSV D1 and Willem II D1 are equal in points.
Both teams still face some tough opponents, so the league is heading for a blood-curdling end!
