A nice game for the B2 on the last round before the winter break. Feyenoord came to the Herdgang, which if they won would be in 2nd place, 3 points behind PSV, while PSV could strengthen their lead and go into the winter break with a good feeling.
Probably due to the tension involved, it was not a very high-class but entertaining match in which both teams kept each other pretty much in balance, also in terms of the number of opportunities created, which could be counted on one hand for both teams. PSV had the biggest chance for the opening goal in the 11th minute, when occasional striker Youandi Renfurm sent Karim Bannani into the Rotterdam penalty area with a fine move, who shot tightly and low but saw the ball pass the goal on the wrong side of the post. A few minutes later Marco Weymans tried his luck with an individual move in which he rounded several opponents and finished with a good shot from 20 meters, which was caught by the keeper, however. Feyenoord came closest to a goal in the 31st minute when the ball was shot in from a very short distance by Mike van de Meulenhof in an attacking move, but was turned away by his foot with a fine reflex. The game seemed to be heading for a 0-0 lead at halftime, but Feyenoord made it 0-1 one minute before the break from a standard situation. A free kick just outside the penalty area, which was not hit by the wrongly positioned wall, and fell in after a bounce behind the wall.
A huge disappointment and although there were still 40 minutes to play it seemed as if the team could not shake off this disappointment. Regardless, neither team was on top in the 2nd half, and hardly any goal-ready chances were created. Although a draw might have better represented the proportions, PSV lost the match and the faces in the locker room were on fire. Rightly so, on the other hand this was the 1st (!) defeat of the season, the team is leader with 3 points ahead of number 2, so the team performed above expectations and played a great 1st half of the season. So, happy vacations to everyone!
