O15 comes back twice from deficit
For the second time in ten days, the O15 traveled to Amsterdam. Last Wednesday it was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the cup (2-1, with Ajax scoring the winning goal in debatable fashion just before time). Time for sporting revenge, then.
The start was not the best. The first the best deep ball was crossed by the outside right and then headed in. Then only three minutes had been played. Although Ajax was often in possession of the ball, PSV came alongside in the twelfth minute. Lars Putters delivered the ball to Ruben van Bommel who put Iggy Houben free in front of the goalkeeper with a subtle ball. Iggy seized the opportunity and brought the score to 1-1. PSV could not enjoy the equalizer for very long, as Ajax took another lead in the 20th minute when the speedy outfielder passed Niek Schiks. Just before halftime Ajax had a great chance for 3-1 when it almost took advantage of a wrong wide pass. Fortunately, Niek reacted alertly and saved PSV from a bigger deficit.
After halftime, the roles were somewhat reversed. PSV now had the ball a bit more. And got the best opportunities. Ruben was whistled back for offside, Sven Simons saw his free kick turned away and Iggy was unable to get a shot off after an hour of play. After Ajax missed an opportunity a little later, PSV deservedly came alongside in the 65th minute. The substitute Shi-jon Martina, with a bit of luck, delivered the ball to Iggy, who did not hesitate in the sixteen and shot the 2-2 hard. In the final minute, PSV had a great chance to take the spoils. After a long pass from Seb Loeffen, Jaivy Lourens didn't quite get out of his stride and also diagonally in front of goal. As a result, his slide was turned away by the goalkeeper.
Thus, it remained 2-2 and, given the entire match, that was a fair result. The team now has two weeks without a game and can recharge the battery for the final league and some tournaments.
