PSV played a typical draw on Saturday against fc Groningen, coached by former first team player Peter Hoekstra. Especially in the 1st half, despite nice field play, both teams rarely got beyond the 16 meters. Against a chance for the physically strong Groningers from a standard situation there was only one dangerous action by Sam Lammers, who almost outsmarted the Groningen goalkeeper in the 32nd minute with a beautiful kick that ended up over the keeper on the crossbar.

The 2nd half showed much the same picture. The guests were really only dangerous from free kicks on the edge of the penalty area. PSV finally took the win through 2 individual actions. In the 61st minute, golden substitute Chris Hagi, barely 1 min in the field, was played in on the right. Coming in with the ball at foot, he played past several Groningers and from the edge of the penalty area he shot the 1-0 with his left leg into the short corner. 4 Minutes before time, Matthias Verreth put the game definitively in the lock, when he put good pressure on the Groningen goalkeeper after a short ball back, got the ball in the tangle and could easily tap in the 2-0. A fine victory after the earlier 5-3 loss of the match in Groningen.
