After reaching the cup final last week, we had another league match on the schedule today. Today's opponent: Fc Dordrecht. A team that won 2-0 in Eindhoven in an otherwise mediocre match. A team that took most of its points after the winter break. But also not yet safe from relegation worries.
Right from the opening whistle, PSV showed it was going for the win. Striker Joey Konings almost blocked the goalkeeper near the goal line after only 30 seconds. After PSV missed a couple of opportunities, Dordrecht almost took the lead in the 20th minute. A Dordt player appeared in front of goalie Mike van de Meulenhof, who saved the ball.
A few minutes later, PSV was close to scoring the opening goal. On the right Amar Catic ran off at speed. But he too hit the goalkeeper. In the 26th minute the goal was finally scored. Karim Bannani was sent away on the left and got to the back line and delivered a tight cross. This was expertly shot in by Joey: 0-1. In the last minute, Karim came close to scoring the 0-2, but was unable to find the net.
In the second half, PSV dominated the game. Dordrecht had spent much of the first half trying to disrupt the Eindhoven build-up, and now had to pay the price. After Lennerd Daneels shot once hard straight at the goalkeeper, the Eindhoven team did make it 0-2 in the 43rd minute. Dante Rigo played the ball just over the goalkeeper from a corner, after which Kaan Tanriver headed the ball in. Another goal from the central defender! In attacking situations he often creates a lot of danger and scores regularly. Much to the satisfaction of his proud father.
Two minutes later, PSV extended its lead. A beautiful deep ball from Roel van Linschoten to Jaëll Hattu preceded this. After Jaëll outran his opponent, he was able to pick out the free fellow player. Finally it was Joey who scored his 2nd goal of the afternoon.
PSV had grabbed its big lead and let a few nice attacks roll over the poor turf. It didn't score again until the 61st minute. Dordrecht took a back ball and the goalkeeper played in his central defender. Karim put good pressure which led toords ball loss after which Joey could easily take advantage and scored his 3rd.
After Dordrecht threatened the Eindhoven goal twice in the closing stages, the final chord was for PSV. A magnificent opening from Jaëll to Karim was the basis of the 5th Eindhoven goal. Karim took the ball from the air sublimely and rounded with a clever shot straight away.
A fine victory today. With good football at times. Feyenoord lost 2 points today. Could there still be a stunt? ....... The future will tell. We play the next match on April 27. Excelsior will come to Eindhoven.
