After the disappointing result last weekend (3-5 loss against Sparta), the o15 now faced Volendam. After 7 rounds of play, the wide boys had exactly half as many points as the Eindhoven team: 8. Accumulated through 2 wins and 2 draws. Would PSV be able to recover from last week's defeat at the Markermeer?
In any case, the start was not good. Already in the 2nd minute Volendam managed to score. Fortunately, the goal was cancelled for offside. But PSV was warned. Somehow, however, this warning did not come in. PSV played the first half in such a haughty manner that it hardly managed to create any danger. Only Jayden Braaf was close to a goal once when he shot at the crossbar in the 29th minute.
Just before halftime goalkeeper Peter Strijbosch had to pull out all the stops to prevent a Volendam opening goal, after which on the counterattack Mathijs Tielemans pounced on the Volendam goalkeeper. There wasn't much else to note in this particularly mediocre first half.
After halftime, PSV had to change its tune to take the game to the next level. At least it started better than in the first half. Jeremy Antonisse should have put the Eindhoveners up 0-1 in the 37th minute, but unfortunately he failed from close range.
Jayden did find the net in the 39th minute. Because he was blown offside, the goal did not count. PSV was the better team in this phase. They had a field advantage and created chances. After Jayden made a good move and sent in a good cross which Jur Clabbers put back to the free Kees van Lindert with his head, the latter seemed to be able to clear the scoreboard. However, his effort from close range did not hit the target so that it still remained 0-0.
Out of nowhere, the home team took the lead in the 44th minute when a Volendam forward was allowed to pass on the edge of offside by the referee and scored 1-0. So PSV again had to chase this match.
And to everyone's dismay, Volendam extended their lead to 2-0 just 2 minutes later when the speedy striker caught a long ball and simply laid the ball wide to the running left winger, who scored easily.
PSV really had to step up and showed character and resilience. In the 47th minute Kees van Lindert brought the tension back when he shot the ball into the right corner with his left: 2-1 with more than 20 minutes to play.
Jayden was close to the equalizer moments later when his hard shot was defused by the Volendam goalie. The equalizer fell a few minutes later. Mathijs Tielemans took care of a free kick halfway Volendam's half and placed the ball unerringly at the far post on the head of Kees, who scored the 2-2. Clever to overcome a 2-0 deficit in such a short space of time.
PSV had all the luck in the world when the referee did not whistle for a penalty after a duel in PSV's 16 meters. A rash action by a PSV player was thus left unpunished.
Striker Jayden Braaf did not go unpunished in the 62nd minute when he firmly dueled for the ball. Yellow card judged the referee and because Jayden had also received yellow for talking in the 46th minute, he could retire and leave the field. PSV had to continue with 10 men.
And almost took 3 points back to Eindhoven. The pass to substitute Djurre Verschut was just too hard for the Volendam goalkeeper to contain the danger. Because the keeper also had his eye on a free kick by Joost de Schutter just before time, the match ended 2-2.
Expensive point loss for PSV after an incredibly weak first half. And a second half in which 2 deep balls put them behind 2-0, but still managed to get a point out of it.
So all the puns about Volendam's goalkeeper having to fish, football with music in it, and PSV's vanguard consisting of the 3J's could go back into the pen. Hopefully these can be taken off in the home game.
