  1. Match report

For the second league match of the season, PSV D2 hosted NAC Breda D2 at the Herdgang on Saturday. The Breda players had lost their first league game 2-4 to RBC Roosendaal D2, PSV D2's opponent next week. PSV recorded a fine 0-4 victory over Roosendaal D1 last week.

NAC starts the match well, as already in the first minute there is a quick attack that ends with a effort rolling towards the empty goal. Ymanuel Hurkmans runs well and gets the ball away at the five-meter mark. Not to make it more exciting than it was: that was NAC's first and immediately last goal attempt in this match. Right after this attack, PSV warns with a lob on the crossbar by Matthias Verreth after good preparatory work by Ertem Bolukbas. Dante Rigo gives no further warning on the next attack and shoots the 1-0 high up the ropes from 18 meters. The opening goal was followed by several opportunities for PSV. Shots by Matthias, after a one-two with Twan Demin, and by Zohair Labyad end up in the hands of the goalkeeper and over the goal, respectively. Twan himself then tests the goalkeeper's gloves once more. Halfway through the second half it becomes 2-0. An attack from behind was played back to Dante by Koen Vos, who shot his second goal. A few minutes later the 3-0 was scored when Zohair sent Matthias in the direction of the goal and Matthias smashed the ball into the roof of the goal. In the remaining ten minutes of the first half, there are plenty of opportunities to extend the score. Dante is dangerous with a free kick, Joey Konings shoots, on a pass from Ertem, and Matthias works the ball over after a cross from Ymanuel. No more scoring before half time. A first half with about 80% ball possession for PSV and at times good football, although a lack of accuracy and calmness on the ball contribute to the 3-0 score.

In the first ten minutes after halftime, sloppiness continues to dominate PSV's play. Therefore, not much is created. Coach Twan Scheepers is not satisfied with this, he keeps his players on their toes and urges them to just keep playing football. The D2 players soon take this advice to heart as the last twenty minutes the poor NAC is completely flattened. Then the goals in the second half. The 4-0 comes after a quick attack and ditto one-two between Matthias and Mats Grotenbreg who gets around the goalkeeper and tucks the ball in. Also the 5-0 is from Mats who shoots into the corner from the edge of the penalty area. Then Matthias, after a clever pass from Ties van den Eijnde, and Jeroen Swinkels test the goalkeeper again, but without success. After these attempts, things go fast. Koen comes up again, plays to Zohair and he decides to look for the top corner with his shot: 6-0. It becomes 7-0 when Giovanni Nicolaas sends Joey deep, Joey hits the post and puts the rebound back to Mats who shoots in. The next goal comes again from Zohair who, sent off by Gio, has a taste for shooting into the corner and makes it 8-0. Then it is Gio who, on a Joey pass from just outside the penalty area, shoots hard with his left to make it 9-0. The crowd shouts "ten, ten, ten" but there is little time left. To the credit of coach Twan's men, they still went in search of the double digits. In injury time, a corner by Gio is missed by everyone in front of goal, but the ball is picked up by Twan (the player, of course) on the edge of the penalty area and nicely placed into the far corner: 10-0.

A nice, big win for PSV D2 who played fine football in large parts of the match. It should certainly be mentioned that every attempt by NAC to mount any kind of attack was foiled early on by the defenders Ymanuel, Koen, Jeroen, Ties and, last but not least, the always technical defender Roel van Linschoten. They ensured that goalkeeper Ieke Scheerhoorn had little to do. With this victory PSV D2 took the lead in the 2nd division C. A nice challenge to not relinquish that position this season.
