In the first half, PSV was clearly the better team. This expressed itself in PSV's possession of the ball but it did not result in real chances. We did not get much further than a few shots from distance and only in the 31st minute the FC Groningen goalkeeper was forced into a save.
The second half presented a slightly different picture. FC Groningen had more chances, and PSV got away well when in the 6th minute a player came up against Lucas and slid the ball wide of the goal.
Still, PSV takes a 1-0 lead after Koen is able to use his length and heads a free kick in from the left.
This lead does not allow PSV to regain control of the game, and already after four minutes Groningen equalizes after a lapse in PSV's otherwise solid defense.
It is now a match that could go in either team's favor. Yet PSV seems to take the win. In the 27th minute, Davy came through on the left and shot the ball diagonally into the right corner. PSV continues to attack and in the 34th, they are unlucky not to get the decisive goal when the ball hits the crossbar. In the ensuing Groningen breakaway, their striker makes it an equalizer with a fine lop. Final score 2-2.
