O16 picks up win in Sittard
In an uneventful match against Fortuna Sittard, PSV O16 narrowly missed out on a win on Saturday. In the second half, the Limburgers came dangerously close to the nice 0-3 lead PSV had built up.
Already in the eighth minute, Ilyas put the 0-1 on the scoreboard after a good header by Milan. In the nineteenth minute the 0-2 also came from his foot, but that goal was disallowed by the referee due to offside. Just a few minutes later Milan punished the referee's decision with a great individual action. With the ball at his feet, he entered the area around the sixteen meter and curled the ball hard into the top right corner: 0-2.
Shortly after the start of the second half, PSV seemed to pull the game in for good. Ilyas after a good preparatory action lay the ball back to the incoming Mo, who shot the ball hard and low: 0-3. Despite the clear dominance, PSV then let things run a little lazily, giving Fortuna opportunities to become dangerous and bring the score back to 2-3. Although both Fortuna and PSV could have scored in the ample injury time, in the end PSV won 2-3.
In injury time Nawaaz was injured in an unfortunate way when a Fortuna player shot the ball hard into his face and he had to leave the field bleeding and groggy. After treatment by on-site ambulance personnel, he was eventually allowed to go home with his parents. PSV wishes Nawaaz a speedy recovery!
PSV plays next Saturday at home against Volendam. Although the team can still draw level with leaders FC Utrecht, Utrecht's goal difference is so much better that this will be one in the 'whatever happens' category.
