  1. Match report

On Tuesday evening the C1 of PSV played a league match against Fortuna Sittard. So no Champions League, but to do it ourselves.

After last Saturday's disappointing game (1-1 at home against Dordrecht) we had something to put right today. Fortuna should be the victim. A team we had no trouble with in Eindhoven and won easily 5-0.

Immediately after the kick-off Fortuna was already dangerous. But the super-fast left-winger of the Limburgers only managed to find the side-netting. Two minutes later Fortuna was again close to scoring the opening goal when PSV failed to clear a corner. The shot went just wide, however.

Thus Fortuna started eagerly and PSV had difficulty combining to create danger on the poor "field". It was therefore deserved that Fortuna took the lead in the 10th minute. Again, it was a corner that was not handled well by PSV, after which the ball suddenly ended up in front of a Fortuna player, who shot: 1-0.

PSV had to chase. But it could not make a fist. It got into too many duels and did not win enough. Fortuna could sit back, hold things up and gamble on the fast left striker.

It took until the 17th minute before PSV had their first real chance. Robin Schoonbrood sent Amar Catiç away on the right. His cross was unfortunately shot wide by Cody Gakpo. After almost half an hour, captain Justin Lonwijk went close to an equalizer when Fortuna failed to clear a corner.

The game ended with a 1-0 score. And PSV could not complain. Because in the penultimate minute the referee ruled the contact between a Fortuna player and PSV defender inside the infamous lines as an unfortunate collision.

After halftime, PSV started well. A veritable siege took place on the Limburg goal. But Cody, Amar and Yasin could not find the net. After fifteen minutes the dominance ebbed away and it became fighting football. PSV had more ball possession but could not find a hole in the Limburg defense. Fortuna occasionally threatened on the counter. So it remained exciting, but certainly not good.

In the closing stages, PSV had a few opportunities with opportunistic play. But none of them were cashed in, so that the team ended up with a 1-0 defeat.

It is striking that this was the first game this season in which PSV did not score.

Also remarkable: since part of the squad has been on a tournament in Qatar around Carnival time, the team is not running as well. Might some (desert) sand have ended up in the Eindhoven engine?????
