The E1 left for Geldrop today for the match against the E1 of this club. An opponent that should not be underestimated given the position on the ranking (3rd) and the results in the past matches against PSV. PSV won these matches, but Geldrop always had the feeling that they could have done more. Possibly because of this, Geldrop chose to start with 3 players up front. PSV used the familiar formula of the past weeks 2-3-1 or actually 2-1-2-1. The initial phase was a bit of a test for both sides and the game was mainly played in midfield. It was noticeable that the pace of play was high from the start. The first good attack was on the PSV side and it was Greg who slipped through the defense at speed and found Jay who just couldn't get to the ball. The resulting corner kick by Jay is brilliantly headed in by Greg. Geldrop now goes in search of the PSV goal but Tijn and Rico are controlling the attackers for the time being. Koen also has to contribute regularly in the face of Geldrop's 3 attackers, but he is well entrusted with this. Despite the slight field superiority and good play by Geldrop, they cannot really become dangerous yet and Pepijn does not have to show off yet. PSV remains dangerous in the counter, especially through Greg, but his shots are well parried by the Geldrop goalkeeper. A little later it was again Greg who hit the bar. Just before half time Geldrop gets the first big chance when a player with a nice ball in front of Pepijn, but Pepijn makes an excellent save. PSV went into the break with 1-0. PSV had the best chances, but Geldrop had a slight field advantage. In the second half we see a stronger PSV that starts to play better football and finds the free man better. However, it is Geldrop that scores the 1-1 after a PSV attack is intercepted and a Geldrop attacker comes only for Pepijn. Now it could get exciting, but Geldrop seems to have given a lot in the 1st half and PSV pulls the game towards them. Greg again finds the goalkeeper in his way. Moments later it is Arne who after a long ball from behind comes alone in front of the goalkeeper, but slides the ball just past the goal. Halfway through the second half, a kick from Pepijn fell behind the Geldrop defense. Joop assessed the ball well and picked it up and can pass the goalkeeper and shoot in. PSV gets more chances and where Geldrop could close the gaps in the first half, the PSV attackers get more space in the second half. Jay played himself free with a nice action on the right side and found Arne who had his sights too high. Then a slalom by Joop but his shot just misses the power. But he also came from far away. There were a few more nice attacks and finally Arne ended an attack via Joop and Jay with the 3-1. A few minutes later it is Greg who finally decides the game by shooting the 4-1 from the rebound of a free kick. A few minutes before time it becomes 4-2 after the referee points to the center of the pitch very quickly after a loss in the PSV defense and approves the goal which according to Pepijn never happened. We will say that is for the statistics. A nice game against a good opponent who we can also compliment and who made it difficult for us, especially in the first half.
