PSV takes lead position from Ajax
A week before the final round of the first half of the competition, PSV has taken over the lead from Ajax. Because Ajax's match this weekend was cancelled and PSV made no mistake at home against FC Twente, the O16 turned the months-long one-point deficit into a two-point lead. The battle for the honorary title of 'winter champion' will thus be decided next week in the mutual match in Amsterdam.
Particularly in the first half, PSV did not exude a sense of the need to win the match against FC Twente first. PSV played below normal level and created few really good opportunities, although Jeremy managed to finish off good preparatory work by Amin in the 18th minute. However, his goal was disallowed for offside. As FC Twente also failed to create any danger, the half-time score remained 0-0.
PSV recovered somewhat in the second half and managed to score at least the liberating goal. After an assist from Alberto, Jeremy scored the 1-0 shortly after halftime, and that was to remain. Although Victor had to make two more saves, FC Twente did not manage to score a goal and PSV came closest in injury time when Amin hit the post from 16 meters. Not a sparkling match for O16, but nevertheless compliments to the team that managed to add another victory to their now long series of wins.
Finally, good news is that Dani Mathieu and Jason Pigmans returned to minutes played for the first time Saturday after months of absence due to serious injuries. Welcome back men!
