  5. Match report

    PSVO17 wint eenvoudig op Papendal

On a visit to the number last of the rankings, PSV under 17 recorded a deserved victory. The win at Papendal was 1-4 for the Eindhoven players, who thus claim the fifth spot in the standings and do good business with a view to qualifying for the champions' pool after the winter break.

Before the game had even started, the ball was in the net. Johan Bakayoko provided the opening goal by surprising the Vitesse goalkeeper with a quick shot, after a good assist from Livano Comenencia. That was also immediately the highlight of the first half, barring some PSV chances. That it was only 0-1 at halftime may be called a small miracle.

After halftime Dylan Hopman was forced to stay behind in the locker room injured, he was replaced by Lars Putters. About seven minutes after halftime, a curious situation arose. The Vitesse goalkeeper was calmly bouncing the ball when he accidentally let it bounce away. He corrected that by picking up the ball again, which is not allowed according to the rules of the game. This therefore resulted in an indirect free kick for PSV, just inside the penalty area. You can leave this job to the Eindhoven players. Mohamed Nassoh prepared the ball with a subtle touch (a world class assist) for Mylian Jiminez, who took a devastating hit: 0-2.

In minute 72, the match seemed to go into the lock after a hard foul by Vitesse's number 5, a red card as a result. Yet it was Vitesse that made it a bit more exciting again. Out of nowhere the 1-2 came and the boys from Eindhoven had to be alert again. And they were: Johan Bakayoko provided the second of the afternoon, after a mistake in the Vitesse backline. Five minutes before time, Naïm Matoug made it 1-4 after a good move by Ibrahim Berete.

Coach Adil Ramzi's team is doing good business ahead of the post-winter break phase. The next match is a real cracker. Ajax will visit Eindhoven. Not on a Saturday this time, but on Friday evening, November 22. Start: 17.45 hours, come all.
