PSV started the match strongly combining. This produced an opportunity in the fourth minute. However, the shot went over the back line via a NAC player. The subsequent corner was taken by Mo and Jeremy headed the ball in 1-0. PSV continued in the same vein and gave NAC no opportunity to get into the game. In the ninth minute a nice combination was completed effectively. Jeremy laid the ball wide and Heritier shot the ball into the goal 2-0 from the edge of the 16. One minute later NAC had the first opportunity to score. However, the shot went wide. PSV retained field advantage and managed to extend the score further in the 15th minute. A cross from the left by Joep eventually reached Mohamed at the far post. With a nice kick he put the 3-0 on the scoreboard. This seemed to decide the match early on but NAC did not let up. In the 19th minute a nicely taken free kick by NAC was tipped out of the goal by Peter. One minute later NAC did score. After a nice combination the ball was shot high into the goal 3-1. After this goal NAC pushed even harder and PSV had to go back. This did not result in any more chances in the first half.

NAC put more pressure in the beginning of the second half. Yet it was PSV that had the first opportunity. After a cross from Luuk, Heritier played the ball back to Djurre. From over 20 meters Djurre shot hard at goal. With a great save the NAC goalie prevented a goal. A few minutes later, NAC had a great opportunity to score after PSV misfired. However, NAC's effort was cleared off the line by Nigel. Another NAC opportunity was nipped in the bud when Thomas threw himself in the path of the shot. NAC was the better side in the beginning of the second half. Yet PSV managed to extend the score again in the 44th minute after a quick counter. Jeremy laid the ball wide and Heritier shot the 4-1. With that, the game was played. PSV took control again and that resulted in two goals in the last 10 minutes. In the 51st minute a goal kick by NAC was caught by PSV. Djurre laid the ball wide and Luuk shot diagonally in, 5-1. One minute later, Luuk played the ball deep to Jeremy. Jeremy rounded a NAC defender and shot the ball high into the goal, 6-1. This was also the final score.
