Under a lovely autumn sun, PSV D1 played the tricky away match against NAC Breda D1 in Breda on Saturday. The Breda players were 3rd on the league table with 6 points behind leader PSV.
In the early stages the teams tested each other. The attacks that are set up do not get further than both sixteen meters. After five minutes, PSV's pressure increases. Although this does not lead to very big chances, there are some opportunities for PSV. The first danger arises when Matthias Verreth crosses the ball from the left and Lennerd Daneels just cannot reach the ball. Moments later it is Matthias who, after a nice cross from Mink Peeters, comes a foot short to spoon the ball over the goalkeeper. The next opportunity arises when Mink blocks a kick from the goalkeeper, but the goalkeeper barely recovers. Opportunities for PSV and the goal often falls on the other side. Just like now. A nice one by the way, because after a quick counter the ball is cleverly shot in by the outside right for the 1-0. Ten minutes had passed and PSV needed some time to recover from the shock. Slowly but surely PSV picked up the thread and towards half time there is some danger in front of the NAC goal. The biggest opportunity is for Matthias, who wants to play the ball from the right side from a long distance past the far-out goalkeeper, but his effort is cracked. The last opportunity shortly before halftime is also for our Belgian striker, but on a pass from Mink he shoots wide.
Also after halftime, PSV continues to play decent football although it remains difficult to create great danger in the NAC defense. NAC meanwhile gets no further than trying to hold back PSV. After halftime, it was Matthias again who, after getting the ball in his possession via Dante Rigo and Ertem Bölükbas, shot wide on the turn. Then it is Ertem who sees his shot from just inside the sixteen denied by the goalkeeper and we see a cross from Joey Koning almost disappear into the goal. Almost indeed, because it seems to be one of those days of 'just not'. The game is decent and the effort good, but the last step is missing. Still, PSV almost came alongside shortly before time when Mink pulled back from the back line and Giovanni Nicolaas shot in. His shot, however, is just blocked by a sliding defender. The ball then rolled to the feet of Zohair Labyad but his shot disappeared just wide of the goal. So PSV D1 suffers its first defeat of the season. Nothing to worry about because 'we' are still leading and next week against Fortuna Sittard we can pick up the thread.
