  1. Match report

    Location: Sportpark "De Geusselt"
After last week's miraculous victory over rival Sparta, the C1 faced MVV today. Familiar to us, as this was now the third time we had faced the Maastricht side this season. After two wins in Eindhoven (2-0 cup, 6-2 league), this was the first time on Maastricht soil. Despite its 9th position on the league table, MVV is a team not to be underestimated. As no opponent should be underestimated! Last weekend it lost narrowly to frontrunner Feyenoord 2-0. And before that it got some great results including an away win over #4: Willem II.

PSV got the desired dream start after Dante Rigo shot the ball under the MVV goalkeeper after only 40 seconds. That promised something for the rest of the match! It was a disappointment when MVV equalized two minutes later. Inattention at the back led to the 1-1 draw. Everyone sat up and took notice. But unfortunately the level of play dropped away. MVV mainly played the long ball, and PSV joined in too much. PSV almost took the lead at halftime. Dante was close to his 2nd goal when his free kick hit the crossbar. And goalkeeper Mike van de Meulenhof almost scored after a far-out kick. Which, partly carried by the wind, bounced over the goalkeeper standing far in front of his goal. Unfortunately for Mike, the ball went just wide.

In the second half, PSV got off to a good start. For in the 38th minute it took the lead again. Lennerd Daneels went well through on the right, put the ball back to Joey Konings. He did not get the ball nicely, but Jaëll Hattu suddenly appeared behind him and took a dry shot to score the 1-2.

After the Maastricht goalie had to intervene once more on a shot by Dante, PSV extended its lead in the 52nd minute. A corner by Dante landed on Joey's head. But instead of going for goal, the ball went back to Dante. Who again passed the ball hard and low where defender Kaan Tanriver gave the final push. Thus Kaan scored again. And celebrated his goal with a "nice" dance. No doubt next TV season we will see him back on "So you think you can dance?".

Barely 5 minutes later, it was again PSV that scored. Joey Konings recaptured the ball in his own half and on power and speed (and with the help of his hand) he passed strongly. Exactly at the right moment he laid wide to the Karim Bannani who simply scored the 1-4.

The final chord was also for PSV. Ertem Bölükbas came through on the left and he also crossed at the right moment, where Jaëll shot his 2nd of the day (also in 2 shots).

With three points in our pockets we boarded the bus back to Eindhoven. To prepare for the topper against leaders Feyenoord next week.
