The question prior to this match, of course, was whether the E1 could maintain their undefeated status. After last week's topper against the E2, another tough match was scheduled for today. The opponent was number three on the ranking list, Geldrop/AEK. With as many loss points as PSV E2 (the only game lost was against the same PSV E2, ed.), but with a slightly lower goal difference, they are firmly at the top of this league. What is especially striking is that the visitors from Geldrop score easily. With 38 goals, they have the second most productive forward in the league (after PSV E1 with 41 goals, ed.). Certainly something the home club had to take into account. In a very attractive opening phase, there was danger for both goals. The first chance was for PSV. On the right side of the pitch, Joey outsmarted his direct opponent. Unfortunately the cross was just a little too sharp, so the ball went wide. On the other side of the pitch, Pepijn managed to narrow his goal well and turn away the striker's effort. The attack was well taken over by PSV through Koen and Joey, the ball came to Arne. With a clever cross he found Gregory, who turned free and hit the ball hard into the cross. After three minutes the score was already 1-0. Despite this early deficit, Geldrop/AEK did not give up. PSV also continued to attack with nice combinations. In the 16th minute the visitors seemed to equalize. Again Pepijn saved the game. With a quick burst of play he managed to find Rico, who made a splitting pass to the free-footed Gregory. His effort went wide via the post. The home club's next attack also started with Pepijn. Now Arne offered himself well, with a nice feint he put two opponents on the wrong foot. His shot could only just be tapped out of the corner by the goalkeeper. The corner was taken by Niels. His kick landed on Gregory's head who headed just over. The next danger came again from a corner. Now Niels managed to find Arne, but his header also failed to hit the target. Also in the 23rd minute the home club got a corner kick. This time it was Bryan's turn to put Benjamin in position, but this third header did not find the net either. On the stroke of halftime Arne threw a nice solo again, on the left side of the field he managed to reach Gregory. This shot was also well handled by the keeper. After half time the picture remained the same. The home club tried to become dangerous from the sides, while Geldrop/AEK kept playing good and dangerous football. In the 33rd minute the ball ended up at the feet of Gregory. His shot was blocked, but Benjamin's shot was also too powerful for the Geldrop defense (2-0). Almost immediately Geldrop/AEK scored the tying goal. However, their attempt went past the goal. In the 40th minute it was a goal. Geldrop scored the 2-1 from a corner. From the kickoff, PSV went on the attack again. A shot from Joey went just wide of the goal. Geldrop/AEK also smelled its chances. Through a fast break the striker came face to face with Pepijn. With a cat-like reflex Pepijn kept the ball out of his goal. Halfway through the second half, Benjamin managed to bring the margin back to two goals. On the axis of the field he shook off three opponents and shot the ball into the short corner (3-1). In the same minute, the match seemed to be decided. Now it was Arne who couldn't get rid of the ball, at the right moment he played off to Benjamin again. This time the goalkeeper managed to get a hand to it. But it was a reprieve, because four minutes before the end Niels crossed the line on the left. His cross was blown clear into the crossbar by Joey (4-1). In the penultimate minute it was even 5-1. Now Joey went well through on the right. His cross, cut to size, was headed by Gregory behind the goalkeeper who had no chance. The final chord was for the visitors. At the whistle they scored the 5-2 final score. With six points from the last two games (also against the competition), trainer Bastiaan could be satisfied.
