PSV B2, trained this year by Kristof Aelbrecht, played the first league match of the new season on Saturday at the Herdgang. Against the guests from Utrecht, the match ended as it began, 0-0. Unlike the result might suggest, it was certainly not a 'pointless' game for the B2, with a result that did reflect the proportions on the field.

After all, PSV had to start the match without about 5 (basic) players who had moved on to the B1. In addition, the training cooperation with VVV-Helmond Sport, which is being piloted for the first time this year, is still being worked on, which means that players from the other two clubs have to be integrated. On Saturday, the concrete result was that 3 players from the other clubs started in Kristof Aelbrecht's starting lineup. In short, a difficult task to field a well-rounded team, nevertheless PSV held its own quite easily and was hardly troubled by Utrecht.

The first half was fairly even, although the guests perhaps had slightly more ball possession. Nevertheless, both teams created about the same number of opportunities. The biggest chance was for the Utrechters though, when the ball in the penalty area suddenly fell free at the feet of a player, who was standing close to goalkeeper Mike van de Meulenhof and took a shot but hit the bar. The 2nd half was a lot more entertaining for the neutral spectator than the first. The number of yellow cards handed out by the referee (3 on both sides) suggests a hard game, but that was not the case. Utrecht played 'utregs' and PSV competed well. With a lot of effort and despite many mistakes, the team stood its ground well, and even had a good chance to score the winning goal in the '63rd minute, when the Utrecht goalkeeper made an excellent save on a drive by striker Joey Konings on a good cross from Arnaut Groeneveld. In the end, the initial score remained on the scoreboard, giving the game a deserved result.
