The first match in the new league format immediately produced a fine spectacle. PSV visited Feyenoord.

Both teams started the game with the best of intentions and applied pressure early on. The result was an exciting match from the start. The first real chance came in the sixth minute for the home team after PSV misfired. Eventually the ball came to a free Feyenoord player on the edge of the penalty area. The hard and low shot was tapped out of the corner by Robin. A few minutes later PSV had their first real opportunity, which was immediately taken. With a crafty cross Heritier sent Jayden away. In a long sprint Jayden left the Feyenoord defender behind and shot the 0-1. PSV had the best chances after that. In the 14th minute, Mohamed intercepted the ball, sent Jeremy away but his cross was headed over by Jayden. Two minutes later, a Heritier cross from the left went wide. In the 19th minute, PSV managed to extend the score. A free kick by Robin from the edge of the penalty area was missed by some Feyenoord defenders. Jayden picked up the ball and after a sprint of several dozen meters he shot the 0-2. PSV did not manage to hold on to this lead, however. In the 24th minute, unnecessary ball loss by PSV in midfield was punished by Feyenoord. A Feyenoord player fired the ball hard into the roof of the goal, 1-2. This was also the score at halftime.

From the start of the second half Feyenoord went in search of an equalizer. Feyenoord put PSV under fierce pressure and PSV barely got out from under the pressure. Many passes did not arrive or were intercepted. Feyenoord were clearly on top in this phase of the match. In the 41st minute a Feyenoord opportunity just went over. The equalizer came a minute later. The ball ended up at the feet of a Feyenoord player, who grabbed it and made it 2-2. A few minutes later Feyenoord had a good opportunity to take the lead after a fast break. Robin saved the shot with a fine save. PSV recovered in the last quarter of an hour and got back into the game. In the 52nd minute, PSV had a good opportunity to take the lead. Jayden rounded the Feyenoord goalkeeper and he saw Luuk standing free in front of the goal. However, the pass was intercepted by a Feyenoord player. A few minutes later a corner by Djurre was headed over by Jayden. Both teams tried in the last minutes of the game to get the win but no more goals were scored.
