After 2 equal games, followed by 2 victories, the 5th game was scheduled today. Opponent: Sparta. Always difficult beforehand, as Sparta's training is particularly well regarded.

It was therefore important for the Eindhoven team to start the match sharp.

Under miserable conditions, the rain came pouring down, we left for R'dam. Fortunately, we were playing on artificial turf and it was dry at the start. However, PSV was not immediately on the ball. Immediately after the kickoff, Sparta was already dangerous. The left winger shot just wide. PSV recovered and had a chance to make it 0-1 with a header by Kaan Tanriver.

However, it was Sparta that took the lead after the goalkeeper misjudged a long-distance shot. Not much later, Lennerd Daneels came in from the right and lashed out hard with his left. The Rotterdam goalkeeper just managed to turn the ball into a corner. A few minutes later Lennerd did score from an identical situation: 1-1!
In the final phase of the first half, PSV still had some opportunities. But there was no more scoring.

In the messy second half Sparta tried to reach their fast strikers via long balls. This sometimes caused precarious moments. PSV was also dangerous at times and was unlucky that a Matthias Verreth effort hit the post. Joey Konings was also close to a goal.

However, it was Sparta that managed to find the net midway through the second half. One of the fast strikers came in from the right and got just too much space to shoot the ball into the short corner with his left. PSV was unable to erase the deficit in the remainder of the match. And thus suffered its first defeat.
