The first game of the competition took the O14 to Rotterdam, where Sparta was the opponent.
Result of this match was 4-1.
Sparta started the game strongly, put good pressure and got the first chances.
Yet it was PSV who took the lead in the 18th minute. Thijs intercepted the ball in the Sparta defense, passed the ball to Mo, who placed the ball in the far corner, giving PSV the lead.
Unfortunately, it took PSV two minutes too long to get back on track, and the score was already tied.
Towards the end of the first half, PSV started to play better. They kept this up in the second half, and then the better field play was PSV's.
PSV created several well played chances, but had no luck with the finishing, including hitting the post and/or crossbar twice.
Sparta persevered in their game to put pressure and were successful by punishing two clumsy ball losses and scoring.
In addition, Sparta scored once more from a fine distance shot.
Although the result does not reflect well, PSV showed good football, especially in the second half. This will certainly pay off in victories in the coming games.
