  1. Match report

PSV started this match well but still had to allow Roda to take the lead. After 5 minutes PSV lost the ball in midfield and Roda was quicker in the counter. Lucas touched the ball but could not prevent a goal 1-0. After that PSV got some chances to score but were not taken advantage of. Also our play became worse because we chose the long ball too often. In the final minute of the first half PSV equalized. From a well set up attack Martijn went into a one-two with Sven. From this flashy combination Martijn went alone to the goalkeeper and placed the ball in the left corner 1-1.

In the 43rd minute Roda shot the ball into the top right corner. With a cat-like save Lucas was able to prevent a goal. A minute later, PSV shot from a corner kick at the post and then Roda shot at the crossbar. After more than half an hour Martijn played a nice pass to Sven, who was alone on the goalkeeper and was able to score, 1-2. The lead did not last long. From a ball in front of the PSV goal Roda came alongside after three minutes, 2-2. In the final minute of the second half Roda got a penalty after a hands ball by our defense. Lucas stayed cool and stopped this penalty.

In the 3rd half, PSV started well by moving the ball to the free-running players. Yet Roda got back into the lead. From a corner kick the offending ball was shot hard into our goal with a diagonal slash from the left 3-2. A fantastic goal by Roda. Over 5 minutes later PSV equalized again from a long distance shot by Niek 3-3. In the final minute Roda scored the winning goal after our defense couldn't make the switch in time 4-3.

Unfortunately today we learned to play football instead of playing. We are not yet ready to keep playing good football under pressure and then wrongly opt for the long ball. We quickly return that long ball to the opponent and you really have to unlearn that. We see improvement but also room for improvement and that is part of your training. The effort and work ethic were fantastic today. Compliments on that.
