PSV's C1 faced Feyenoord C1 for the third time this season. They previously drew 1-1 in the league. And recently the Eindhoven won handsomely for the cup in the quarterfinals in Rotterdam 1-3. For PSV, the stakes were not much higher. For the title, it is virtually eliminated. And it can therefore focus on the cup final against Ajax. Feyenoord on the other hand still has a chance to knock Sparta out of first place. And so needs the three points to keep the pressure on Sparta.
PSV were unable to field their starting lineup from recent weeks due to various circumstances. Justin Lonwijk broke his wrist this week and could not play, just like the already long-term injured Ruud van Breemen. In addition, striker Cody Gakpo played with the B2. So trainers Edwin de Wijs and Joonas Kolkka had to puzzle which 11 players would start and on which position.
From the kickoff Feyenoord took firm control of the initiative and did not let go for the full 70 minutes. Already in the first minute Feyenoord was dangerous. And just after that the striker shot wide. It was fully deserved that Feyenoord went ahead 1-0. In the 14th minute, the left winger took the ball with his hands and crossed the goal line. But the rebound was for a Feyenoord player who scored simply.
A few minutes later Feyenoord made it 2-0. From an almost identical situation. Arne saved a shot and the rebound was for the Feyenoord striker:2-0.
As if that wasn't enough, Feyenoord took the lead to 3-0 at the break. Simple ball loss in midfield allowed a striker to shoot. Arne was able to save but just like the first two goals the rebound was for Feyenoord. In that respect it was like a basketball match.
PSV did nothing in return. They lost almost all their duels and walked apathetically across the field. Only in the 31st minute did the first (and later the only) opportunity arise when Yasin Aalillou shot over from the turn.
In the second half, PSV came out a little better. But it could not make a fist or create a chance. Because Feyenoord managed to score one more time, it ended up being 4-0.
A justified defeat. Nothing to complain about. Feyenoord really were the better team on ALL fronts today.
