The baptism of fire in the E league was against Geldrop. Then, due to the excitement of playing against an E team, we only (!) won 5-2.
Now was the return and it could be a great battle. In terms of play it did, Geldrop played unabated despite double digits in goals against. And PSV played one of its best games ever, with many strong long distance shots, headers and beautiful combination football. The weather also played a role in this battle; in the second half the rain came pouring down. But that did not bother our team, because in the second half it rained no less than six goals.
The opening goal fell quickly and this time it came from captain Ruud. He got the ball through strong attacking work by Robin and Cody and shot in with his left. On the second goal, Cody made a rush across the field, but encountered Geldrop's otherwise excellent defense. The opponent tried to shoot the ball away in front of the goal, but James positioned himself well and was able to work the ball easily into the nets.
The third goal came from euphoric play by Robin, Ruud and Jordan, with the latter shooting the ball against both posts and seeing his rebound blocked by the goalkeeper. From a cross by Cody, Baggio, who showed speed and precise timing, headed powerfully in.
On the fourth goal, Björn was attentive when the opponent made a defensive error. And it was 0-5 by Luuk who took the ball tightly on the slipper, after a pass across the field from Ruud.
The fine goalkeeping of the Geldrop goalie was of no avail after yet another long distance shot; Björn shot the 0-6. Then it was the turn of Geldrop who showed that they were also capable of scoring points from combination football. The 1-6 was a fact. Immediately afterwards our PSV'rs showed their worth again and Jordan launched the 1-7 with a distance shot.
The second half was a little less attractive thanks in part to the weather. The goals were still numerous on the PSV side and Geldrop struggled to keep up at times.
Immediately after halftime Jordan made his mark by showing that he is also capable of heading. He worked a corner from Cody in with his head; 8-1. The 9-1 was from our ball wizard Robin who handled a pass from Ruud well and then placed it behind the goalkeeper. Shortly afterwards a combination of Robin and Cody was successful and the latter scored the 1-10.
Still Geldrop recovered and the forward let Merijn out of his goal during a dangerous attack. Merijn knew how to deal with this and blocked the ball at the right moment.
PSV continued to score undisturbed. Cody shot in hard on a Baggio pass, Ruud scored after a pass from the defense and Björn scored the thirteenth goal, also the last of the match, his hat trick.
Then the run started to the locker rooms and the canteen.
Chapeau for Geldrop that kept playing football, but PSV dominated this match with no less than thirteen goals.
